There has never been a time in human history when it has been more important to have an understanding of Bible prophecy. And yet, the media, for the most part, either look down their collective noses at Bible prophecy or try to get people interested in false prophecy, especially the prophecies of Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, or whoever the most popular witches or sorcerers happen to be. Recently, they have promoted the prophecies of the Indians, hoping to get people excited about the year 2012. The media is happy to keep you as ignorant of real prophecy as they possibly can. Why? It’s because they do not have a clue as to what real prophecy is. In fact, most of the media spokespersons consider the Bible to be a collection of superstitions written down by uneducated delusional farmers trying to formulate a concept of God. Therefore, it is no surprise that just about any channel on television, including the history channel, will gladly present a collection of videos geared more toward political correctness and intellectual diversion than toward any information of a real and pragmatic nature.
And the religious channels are even worse. They will gladly bend over backwards to promote their particular brand of religion, regardless of what the Bible really says. Their reasons for believing what they believe are similar to the generic media: they adopt belief patterns that are promoted by their peers. In other words, thanks to peer pressure, the truth has only a tiny chance of squeaking through the media filter. The religious leaders use the Bible as a prop while they teach the diametric opposite of the lessons contained in scripture. Of course, religion, like politics, is a business. Nevertheless, the media, if they were living up to their potential, would at least start to point out the errors of the various religions. For example, they should expose the phony healers who claim to heal but really don’t. Why don’t they expose the tricksters? It is because the media is not in the business of digging out truth, even though they pretend that is their mission. So it is little wonder that most people don’t have a clue as to how to understand Bible prophecy.
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20). The media are experts at calling evil good and good evil.
In order to understand Bible prophecy, it is first necessary to have the keys that unlock the meanings and purpose behind Bible prophecy.
The first key to understanding Bible prophecy is to know the purpose of prophecy. It is not for the primary purpose of prediction only. It is for the purpose of linking us with our Creator, with no middle man in between other than Christ.
“…without faith it is impossible to please him: for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). If you don’t see the big picture, if you are drained of faith, you will be spinning your wheels and you will be void of understanding.
Another key to understanding is the realization that the Bible is the handbook for life, our life is a test, and this earth is the proving ground. That should be easy enough to understand.
“Beware lest any man spoil you by philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ” (Colossians 2:8). Philosophy is like candy to the mind, however, in most cases, it has nothing to do with reality. Your understanding will increase when you stop trying to see the world through the glasses of any brand of philosophy.
A major key to understanding is the realization that eternal life (salvation) is available only through Christ (Acts 4:10-12).
One of the most important keys to understanding Bible prophecy is the realization of what the gospel truly is. 99.999 percent of the population does not have a clue. Christ brought a message to this planet. It is the gospel, the good news of the coming kingdom of God. The majority of the populations of this earth are ignorant of that gospel. Most leaders in professing Christianity preach and teach a gospel about Christ, not the gospel that Christ brought, the gospel of the kingdom of God.
There is another key to understanding Bible prophecy that the populations of this world, for the most part, are ignorant of. They do not know where the English-speaking people are mentioned in Bible prophecy. Could they be ignored in Bible prophecy? Absolutely not!

Finally, there is a key to understanding Bible prophecy that involves knowing what the marker for the end really is. Troubling and devastating as an earthquake is, it is not, by itself, a sign of the end. Wars, earthquakes and famines are just the beginning of sorrows (Mark 13:7-8).
The sign of the end is the cup of evil becoming full. The cup of evil was getting full when the earth was overcome by the flood. The cup of evil was getting full when the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah was executed. The end of the world (end of the age) and the coming of the Son of man will occur in times similar to the time of the flood (Matthew 24:37-39). Before the flood, the imagination of the hearts of men was evil continually (Genesis 6:5). We are coming to that point of corruption in our modern world. Agents of corruption in government, business, banking, medicine, and the media are bringing us to the threshold of destruction and to the end of the age of man’s rule. It would be a good idea to understand Bible prophecy as we start to approach the end. Understanding beats confusion every time it is utilized. Read all the way to the end of the book of Revelation. You will see that evil loses.
“For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope” (Romans 8:20).
