The activity of Aaron and the children of Israel in the building of the golden calf exists as a profound lesson to both teens and adults in today’s status-driven world of peer pressure. We would never adore a golden calf or something similar, simply because of peer pressure. Or, would we?
Aaron, the leader next to Moses, should have known better. In fact, he did know better. Peer pressure is likely just as big a problem for adults as it is for teens. When the golden calf was finished, he (Aaron) announced: “Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord” (Exodus 32:5). A righteous prophet might have asked, “Which Lord?” Baal also means Lord. The same might be asked in today’s world in which commercial religions are customized for today’s consciousnesses and political correctness. It is the way of Cain (Jude 1:11), substituting our own religion in place of the religion of God. Cain felt it wasn’t important enough to learn what God really expected. Instead of conforming to God’s religion, Cain killed the one who was practicing true religion, Abel. The same is true today.
“Just a closer walk with thee” is a popular song in religious circles. Unfortunately, the way in which a close walk with God is outlined in scripture is not generally well received in today’s world. It too, is remembered only as a lovely song without application.
“…you are unto them as a very lovely song of one that has a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear your words, but they do them not” (Ezekiel 33:32).
That is a vital reason there has to be an end time Elijah. He will have to oppose the end time Jezebel (Revelation 2:20). And she is not corrupting people who are already corrupt. She is reaching out, teaching and seducing God’s “… servants to commit fornication {porneuo} and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.” That end time Elijah will draw the difference between the 2 Lords, same as the first Elijah. The word “Elijah” is “el” is “yah”, God is Yah (short for YHVH). He will be hated by the God-hating media as he turns the hearts of the children to the fathers and the hearts of the fathers to the children (Malachi 4:5-6). Contrary to popular notions among religious leaders, the word “porneuo” is a generic Greek verb, meaning, idolatry of all kinds, particularly idolizing someone who is your mate, particularly fetishism (sexual idolatry), aberrant sexual behavior practiced by people having jaded appetites.
We can certainly look forward to the time when the teachers will not be removed to a corner any more (Isaiah 30:20), idolatry will be thrown out like a filthy rag (verse 22), and there will be no more Canaanites (Merchants) in the house of the Eternal of hosts (Zechariah 14:21).
There will exist no idolatry in the universe of tomorrow.
“…they that feared the LORD spoke often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and the book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, like a man spares his own son that serves him. Then shall you return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that serves him not” (Malachi 3:16-18).
