Skateboarding was born in 50s. Surfers came up with the idea of surfing the streets. There is no accurate account on who made the very first skateboard but it seemed that it was an idea that no one person came up with. There have been others who have claimed it but nothing has been verified.
The boom of the video industry also started in the 80s. Handycams or small video cams came into the scene and inspired Stacey Peralta and George Powell to film a group of skateboarders for a show. The skateboarders included Tony Hawk. Other skateboarders in the film were Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, Rodney Mullen, Stacy Peralta, and Kevin Staab,
It was not until the early 60s that skateboarding started becoming popular and companies started holding competitions. The skateboards were also already much improved by this time. First popular skateboarders were Torger Johnson, Woody Woodward and Danny Berer. However, their exhibitions were different then. It seemed more like a dance than an X-game.
In 1972, the urethane skateboard wheels were invented by the company called Cadillac wheels. This made skateboarding very safe and it also re-launched the sport. Figures like Tony Alva, Jay Adams and Stacy Peralta become popular when they started riding the board very much closer to how it is being ridden today. It was suddenly edgy, cool and still dangerous.
In 1978, Alan Gelfand gave birth to what was to become the father of all skateboarding maneuver called Ollie. This involves slamming his back foot down on the tail of his board and jump. This would launch himself and the board into the air. Ollie is Alan’s nickname. He just immortalized his memory. Despite this, new apprehension on the sport arouse when insurance companies refuse to insure skateboarders. This also discouraged the government from building skateparks. Skateboarders then started building their own ramps in their own backyard.
At 17, he bought his own house and constructed his own ramp. After two years, he bought another house which is twice as big that allowed him to construct more ramps in his home. He is also a generous person. He shares his fortune. Constantly, he flies his friends and families to different places for a vacation and it’s all on him.
