The 7 chakras refer to the seven force centers in the human body located in a vertical straight line correlating with the major nerve ganglia originating from the spinal cord. Located within the subtle body of man, these points are energy whorls where reception and transmission of energies takes place. Since it is located in the pancreas region, physically it deals with all metabolism and digestion issues of man but otherwise, the key issues are those of formation of individuality, one’s personality and individuality with self esteem and self respect being some of the important components of the same.
After the trilogy of the self is complete, we come to that point where the self in its body meets the spirit. The centre to the 7 chakras, the Anahata Chakra is known as the center power house of man and stands for complex emotions towards spirituality. Symbolized by a green lotus with 12 petals it is located near the heart and is physically related to it and the immune system of man. The key issues of this chakra are those of divine love, tenderness, compassion, trust, inspiration, hope and equilibrium.
The fifth of the 7 chakra is that of Vishuddha or the power of will. A pale blue or turquoise lotus with 16 petals, it is located in the throat region beside the thyroid gland and stands for growth, self expression, communication and maturation.
The white or the indigo lotus with only two petals is the Ajna Chakra or the wisdom chakra of man. Located in the forehead near the eyebrows, it is physically linked to the pineal gland which controls sleeping and waking up. One of the most crucial chakras it stands for one’s progression on the path of opening up of one’s inner conscious and subconscious realms of the psychological forces. This chakra is all about development if the inner self, the sub conscious, the detachment of subjective perception for distinguishing between illusion and truth.
The last and the final of the 7 Chakra is the Sahasrara Chakra of pure consciousness. A vivid violet lotus with a thousand petals, it is located at the crown of one’s head and stands for the final spiritual journey of man in realizing the ultimate truth. The inner aspects of this chakra involves the practice of meditation, release of one’s karma, realizing one’s true potential and the immortality and omnipotence of the soul.
