Thoughts On Guided Meditation

Meditation has been practiced for as long as man and woman have walked this earth. Meditation is the art of cleansing the mind of unruly thoughts and bringing about a sense of peace and relaxation. Meditation allows the practitioner to stop and put the world aside for a while and fostering positive thinking. Doctors will sometimes prescribe meditation as a way of dealing with health issues such as stress or high blood pressure as they recognize the mind being the most powerful of healers.

Guided meditation is exactly what it means, meditation done under the guidance of another person. Guided meditation is basically the attainment of a relaxed state under the guidance of an expert who provides auditory or visual cues such as sounds and pictures to bring the person into a meditative stance. This form of meditation is easier to perform as the work involved in bringing the mind into a focused state is minimized.

Guided meditation is learning the art of meditation with a teacher or guide. The guide, akin to a coach, provides the wisdom for you to absorb to empower yourself to go beyond the thought provoked world into a state of conscience cleansing. Guided meditation will provide the necessary stepping stones to your goal.

Guided meditation isn’t usually a group event but taking a class might be a good place to start. Learning almost anything in a group is easier than on your own. A class setting will allow students to help each other as well as learning from the guide. A class will provide a support system as the students work to see results of their effort, especially if all the students have the same goal.

The novice is first started off in the guided meditation technique and eventually graduates towards independent meditation, this is the method generally followed in Eastern meditative techniques. In the highly competitive and stressful world of today, the technique of guided meditation is primarily used as an aid in self-improvement. The goal here is to bring a change in the psyche of the person who is being guided rather than helping them attain a higher enlightened state or higher intellectual state.

Guided meditation is good for many things. It brings about a new and improved focus and a clearer thought process. Some religions use guided meditation as a means of transcending to a higher level of being. Meditation brings about a sense of well being not usually associated with a busy life. Guided meditation is also a means of self expression brought about by a desire to cleanse the mind.

The potential of the human body itself to fight disease is immense and yet this area has not been studied in detail as of now. Guided meditation mainly aims to unlock this potential and heal the person who is sick. The proponents of meditation and guided meditation are many; it is seen by many to be a simple yet effective way of attaining self-improvement, greater spirituality and a heightened state of enlightenment.
